Taking to the field for a goodwill 20/20 cricket match recently, a team from the Australian Embassy in Tokyo helped raise an estimated 700,000 yen ($8,250) for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
The match was played in Akishima City, in Tokyo’s west, on Saturday 4 June 2011.
The Australians managed a narrow 150-146 run victory over a determined Japan Cricket Association team that included several members of Japan’s national women’s cricket team, which won bronze at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.
All players wore a specially-designed polo shirt bearing the words “Hearts Together With Cricket” as a gesture of unity. To raise money for charity, volunteers at the ground sold polo shirts and other merchandise and accepted donations from spectators.
